Source:BERNAMA Date:Thursday, 15 April 2010. Article Type:General

KUCHING, April 15 (Bernama) -- Sarawak police uncovered a syndicate producing pirated compact disc (CD) and digital video disc (DVD) and arrested five men in a raid on a house in Jalan Stampin here two days ago.

Sarawak Commercial Crime Investigation Department chief Supt Mohd Firdaus Abdullah said the syndicate had been using the house as their operation centre.

Acting on public tip-off, he said the police seized pirated CDs, DVDs and various equipments amounting to RM115,000 during the raid.

"We are also in the midst of investigating the possibility that the syndicate has links outside Kuching.

"What's interesting about their operation is that they are quite systematic and each worker has his own punch-card," he told a press conference here on Thursday.

He said all five suspects, aged between 20 and 28, had been remanded to facilitate investigations.

Mohd Firdaus said police had also launched a hunt for the mastermind since the five suspects were merely workers and the house used as the operation centre was rented.

Overall, he said 27 raids, mostly here, had been mounted by police so far this year involving a seizure of DVDs worth RM360,000.
