Counterfeit DVD sales busted

Source:MidHudson News Date:Tuesday, 9 February 2010. Article Type:General

MIDDLETOWN – A Flushing man was arrested and 1,600 counterfeit movie DVDs were confiscated in the latest Middletown Police raid on the Middletown Flea Market on Dolson Avenue.

That location has been raided many times before for similar reasons.

This time, city police and the anti-piracy branch of the Motion Picture Association of America conducted an investigation leading to Saturday’s arrest of Jian Wu Dai. He was charged with trademark counterfeiting in the second degree and failure to disclose the origin of a recording, both felonies.

The titles confiscated included first run movies not yet released on DVD, including “The Book of Eli”, “Sherlock Holmes” and “Avatar”.

Dai was arraigned and remanded to the Orange County Jail in lieu of bail.
