Chandigarh, Jan 12 (IANS) Over 1,000 pirated CDs of Bollywood films were seized in raids conducted at five different locations in Amritsar, Ludhiana and Ferozepur cities of Punjab Tuesday, police said.
“The raids were conducted at two shops each in Amritsar and Ferozepur and at one shop in Ludhiana. Police have seized a large number of pirated CDs, MP3s, DVDs and VCDs of latest Bollywood movies,” a police official said.

The raids were carried out on a tip-off from officials of the Indian Music Industry (IMI), he added.

“Police have also seized memory cards, DVD writers and computer systems. We have registered a case against the accused persons and started our investigation,” the official said.

The police recovered MP3s of movies like “Dostana”, “Singh is King”, “Welcome” and “Kismat Konnection” among others.

“The Indian music industry is suffering huge losses because of piracy. IMI is committed to its fight against piracy and will ensure that 2010 yields quality results,” said Savio D’Souza, general secretary of IMI, a consortium of 142 music companies.

Piracy alone results in a loss of Rs.6,000 million annually to the Indian music industry, D’Souza said.
