Over 3 Million Baht Worth Of Pirate CD’s & DVD’s Confiscated

Pattaya police have successfully apprehended two female suspects involved in a large scale pirate CD and DVD business. The evidence collected from the scene has an estimated street value of over 3 million baht.
Pattaya, the 27th of November 2009 [PDN]: Police Lieutenant Colonel Phasakorn Phaijit and a team of officers declared that they have successfully apprehended a Miss Waree Urat age 40, and a Mrs Angkhana Thongchai age 30, at an apartment in Pattaya. The two women have been arrested in relation to the illegal piracy of over 3 million baht worth of CD’s and DVD’s.
Miss Urat and Mrs Thongchai were illegally reproducing pirates of copyrighted CD’s and DVD’s, which they were then selling to the public from their movie rental shop in Pattaya.
Police officers were already aware of the pairs' rental business and suspected that they were pirating both English and Thai CD’s and DVD’s. Upon receiving a search warrant from the local courts, officers entered the premises arresting the two suspects. Police confiscated 7 computer screens, 5 computers, 1 notebook, various printers, documents substantiating the piracy, sales receipts and approximately 10,400 pirate CD’s and DVD’s, with a combined worth estimated at over 3 million baht.
The two women have been charged with the sale of counterfeit items and the reproduction of copyrighted items without authorisation. The women have been arrested and sent to police investigators who will carry on with judicial proceedings.
